AI adoption and IP rights​

The 2026 Intellectual Property Awareness Summit® will feature leading entrepreneurs, inventors, creative industry members, scholars, investors and executives from the world's most innovative organizations at the lead public science and technology center.

The 2026 Intellectual Property Awareness Summit® is being hosted by the Center for Intellectual Property Understanding (CIPU) at the Center of Science and Industry, America's top-rated public learning forum. 

Where AI and IP meet -Where they are headed

This year’s theme, ‘Technology at the Crossroads: AI, IP Rights, and New Opportunities', will explore GenAI's artificial sometimes precarious relationship to IP rights like copyrights, patents and trade secrets.

IPAS 2026 will provide participants on April 23rd in Columbus an excellent opportunity for discussion and networking in a conducive setting. A tour of COSI 320,000 square foot, state of the art education facility will be available for those who preregister. 

The IP Awareness Summit® is the only annual event that examines the impact of IP on innovation, creative expression, commerce and society, and the strategies for improving it.

Preliminary panel topics for 2026 include:

  • AI, patents, and copyrights: Family or frenemies? 
  • AI adoption - Who is and is not using AI? Why? 
  • LLMs vs. SLMs; Proprietary technology mixes with. open source
  • AI, IP + ROI – What businesses, creators, and society consider meaningful
  • Crafting a lasting IP message for the specific audiences   

 

Breakout session topics under consideration:


   - Should businesses establish AI use guidelines? 
 
   - Does IP globalization help or hinder the U.S. innovation?

   - Can IP or AI help the U.S. maintain its innovation edge? 
 
   - AI transparency - How much is sufficient?

IPAS Through the years

What to Expect:

25 world class speakers, five timely panels, 25 world class panelists, two keynote speakers, access to participants. You will also find lively discourse, fresh thinking and networking opportunities. To enhance interaction IPAS is limited to 125 attendees. 
 

Join a select group of thought leaders – owners, creators, educators, lawyers and investors, among others – in exploring the issues and attitudes affecting IP, IP rights  and AI. 


A light lunch will be served and a reception with drinks and hors d'oeuvres following the final panel, will provide opportunities to meet the speakers and network with attendees. The cost is covered in part by a nominal registration fee included on a sliding scale.

 

Included will be discussion breaks, social events, such as a tour of COSi, including the current "The Science Behind Pixar" exhibit. In-person registration is limited. Reserve your place now!
