Albhy Galuten

Grammy Award-winning record producer, inventor, Intertrust Senior Fellow

Albhy Galuten is a technology executive, inventor, record producer, composer, musician, conductor and futurist. He has produced 13 number one singles with songs and albums selling over 100 million copies worldwide. He has been nominated for seven and won two Grammy Awards and is the recipient of multiple gold and platinum records. He created the first drum loop for ‘Saturday Night Fever.’ Versions are used today in thousands of recordings. Albhy invented and developed the Enhanced CD, which is used and distributed by all major labels.

 

He served as Senior Vice President of Advanced Technology at Universal Music Group where he started and ran the music industry’s first technology division. He also was an executive at Sony Corporation of America and is currently a Senior Fellow at digital rights management pioneer Intertrust technologies, which is owned in part by Philips and Sony. As an inventor, Albhy has 11 issued patents. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Notable Fellows include Charles Dickens, Benjamin Franklin, Stephen Hawking, Marie Curie, and Tim Berners-Lee.

Allison Gaul

KEYNOTE: AI product developer, user strategist and risk mitigation expert;
                          Senior Legal Counsel, AI and IP business strategist, BCG X

Allison Gaul is a leading advisor to businesses at the intersection of AI, data-driven products, law, and policy at BCG X, an affiliate of the venerable Boston Consulting Group. Her focus is helping business leaders make sound decisions in fast-moving, high-stakes technology environments, such as AI. Her work includes support for innovations in artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, fintech, Internet of Things, drones/UAVs, telecommunications, and augmented reality. Her experience spans AI and data governance, intellectual property strategy, open-source software considerations, technology transactions, and data licensing, with a strong emphasis on cross-border compliance and the evolving U.S. and EU regulatory landscape. 

 

Allison has spoken widely on the topic of responsible AI, data and IP strategy, and secondarily but intentionally, advancing women and minorities in technology, with engagements across academia, government, industry, and policy forums. At the core all her work is a passion for helping organizations realize the positive potential of emerging technologies, responsibly. Before joining the BCG X, Allison practiced as a patent attorney at both large and small law firms. She also worked as a Patent Examiner at the USPTO, and is a registered patent attorney. She holds a BS in Applied Mathematics with minors in Computer Science, Computational Physics, and Astronomy. In addition to a law degree from Temple, she holds a master's degree in Business Analytics from Harvard University. In 2022, she was named Ms. District of Columbia.

Anthony Trippe

Senior Program Leader for AI Initiatives, Owens Corning

Anthony Trippe leads development of innovative AI solutions at Owens Corning, including those that enhance R&D. He spearheads the creation and implementation of OC's AI for Science and Technology (S&T) charter, which aims to integrate AI technologies into R&D initiatives to drive scientific discovery and technological advancements. He is also the IP Strategy Manager at Owens Corning, responsible for working with its science and technology teams and patent attorneys to develop IP resources for the company. 

 

Prior to joining OC, he served at Managing Director of, Patinformatcs, LLC, an acknowledged leader in patent analytics and  landscape reports. Tony wrote the Guidelines for the Preparation of Patent Landscape Reports for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He is an Adjunct Professor at Illinois Institute of Technology / Chicago-Kent Law, educating future leaders on patent analysis and patent landscape reports for corporate decision-making. Trippe's experience includes leadership roles in patent analysis in the pharmaceutical and chemicals industries. He holds a Master of Science in Organic Chemistry from UC Irvine and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from UC San Diego.

Arlyne Simon

Solutions Architect and Inventor, Intel; Author, ‘Abby Invents’ series

Arlyne Simon says she is blessed to have not one but three careers: biomedical engineer, author of science books for children, and teaching K-5 educators how to bring invention education into the classroom. Her mission is to inspire young inventors everywhere and change the perception of what an inventor looks like. Dr. Simon is a successful inventor and entrepreneur, having developed a blood test that detects when cancer patients reject bone marrow transplants. She has designed everything from syringes to supercomputers and ultrasound machines. She currently works as a Solutions Architect in Intel's Health, Education, and Consumer Industries Group in Portland, OR. 

 

Dr. Simon is author of the award-winning “Abby Invents” picture book series and a 2019-2021 American Association for the Advancement of Science Ambassador, providing a national STEM role model for girls. She is transforming K-12 invention education while working full-time as a biomedical engineer. “I love helping kids see themselves as future inventors and enjoy showing educators how to bring invention education into their classrooms.”

Bruce Berman

Managing Director, Brody Berman Associates; Co-founder & Chairman, CIPU; Author; Investor; Publisher

Bruce Beman is Managing Director of Brody Berman Associates, a management consulting and communications firm that serves innovative businesses and investors. Brody Berman has supported more than 200 businesses and IP portfolios since 1988, as well as many law firms and their clients on a range of IP litigation and transactions. In 2016, he co-founded with Marshall Phelps and Judge Paul Michel the Center for IP Understanding, which he serves as chairman. Bruce is responsible for five books about the business of IP, including From Ideas to Assets. His articles have appeared in Forbes, Nature Biotechnology, National Law Review and The New York Times

"Understanding IP Matters,"a  critically acclaimed podcast series he hosts, gives guests the opportunity to share their IP story. It has generated more than 16,000 downloads. His "Intangible Investor" column appears regularly on IP Watchdog. The column had appeared in every issue of IAM magazine from 2003 to 2019, about 100 in all. IP CloseUp, a weekly update on trends he publishes, is read in more than 70 countries and has received more than 465,000 visits. Bruce holds a Masters’ Degree film scholarship from Columbia University, where he taught for four years and completed course work and comprehensives for the Ph.D.

Corey Salsberg

Vice President and Global Head of IP Affairs, Novartis

A senior IP executive at Novartis, one of the world’s leading innovative biopharmaceutical companies, Corey is recognized as an international thought leader. He is also President of the Federal Circuit Bar Association (2025-2026) and serves as a Board Member of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) and of California Lawyers for the Arts. 

A patent attorney and former litigator with over two decades of experience, Mr. Salsberg is recognized in many fields of IP and innovation law and policy. Dan Brown

Award-winning inventor, serial entrepreneur, educator and innovation advocate;  Member, USPTO Public Patent Advisory Committee

Dan Brown is an award-winning designer, serial inventor, entrepreneur and professor, in the Segal Design Institute at Northwestern University. Dr. Brown has received over 100 US and International Utility patents for his novel new product solutions in industry and entrepreneurially, taking many to market himself as a founder of two startups. A recognized innovator in industry with 10 International Design Awards, Dr. Brown has also been elected to the National Academy of Inventors and appointed to the PPAC (Patent Public Advisory Committee) for a three-year term at the USPTO by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce.

 

Dr. Brown has seen both sides of the American Dream with his American Made Bionic Wrench invention: innovation-based market success, while at the same time having to continuously fight knockoffs in the marketplace almost destroying his business. Dr. Brown has committed himself to creating an equitable, protectable, and sustainable intellectual property system for all inventors.

Daryl Lim

Endowed Chair, Penn State Dickinson Law; Associate Dean for Research and Innovation, Penn State University; Affiliate, Center for Socially Responsible AI

Daryl Lim is the H. Laddie Montague Jr. Chair in Law at Penn State Dickinson Law and co-hire at the Institute of Computational and Data Sciences at Penn State University. He also serves as Associate Dean for rResearch and Innovation and founding director of the Intellectual Property and Innovation Initiative. He is the host of the Penn Dickinson’s podcast, “Profiles in Leadership.”

Professor Lim is an award-winning author and commentator on national and global trends in IP and competition policy. He helps policymakers, attorneys, corporate counsel, scholars, and the public make sense of the world around them. He is a founding member of the Global IP Alliance. In December 2022, the American Law Institute elected Professor Lim to a member.

Diane Gabl Kratz

Diane Gabl Kratz is an award-winning Silicon Valley-based IP executive and registered patent attorney who leads an 18-person global team at Dolby. She specializes in IP strategy, portfolio development, managing litigation, and empowering high-performing teams. Her role includes development of U.S. and international patent portfolios; she also heads trademarks, leading to World Trademark Review honoring Dolby as 2025’s “Technology & Consumer Electronics Team of the Year.”

David Mess

David has held various roles in organizations affiliated with The Ohio State University, including Lecturer in Intellectual Property and Licensing at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Dr. Frederic Bertley 

President and CEO of the Center for Science and Industry; Immunologist

Sometimes in a suit and tie, other times in jeans and 'Chuck Taylors', Dr. Frederic Bertley is a scientist (immunologist), educator, and advocate for critical and innovative thinking. Dr. B, as he is known, is President & CEO of the Center of Science and Industry (COSI), where he leads the number one-ranked science center into the future. He serves on several boards and speaks around the world on topics such as the importance of science literacy, careers in STEAM, IP rights, leadership development, problem solving ideation and diversity. 

 

Dr. B’s postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School focused on developing DNA vaccines for HIV/AIDS. He has worked in-house as a technology expert at a leading law firm in support of patents and serves as CEO (interim) of the National Veterans Memorial and Museum. Dr. B is recipient of 13 Emmy Awards for excellence in educational television programming.

Ian McClure

Vice President of Research and Innovation, University of Kentucky

Ian leads initiatives to facilitate UK discoveries, seek equitable returns on intellectual property rights, and establish innovative approaches to develop, fund and support research partnerships. He also leads UK’s aggressive AI initiatives, including training and adoption. Ian provides oversight of UK Innovate, which includes the Office of Technology, industry partnerships and Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training. He is immediate past president of the Association of University Technology Managers and an advisory board member for the Oak Ridge Innovation Institute.
 

Ian began his career as a Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) and Intellectual Property (IP) transactions attorney. He helped build from start drawing board to 30+ employees IPXI, the world’s first financial exchange for IP and technology rights. Ian was Vice President of IP Strategy for Black Stone IP, a boutique investment bank acquired by Houlihan Lokey.

Ian teaches graduate courses on the Law & Business of IP Management at Chicago-Kent College of Law and the University of Kentucky College of Law.

James Conley

Clinical Professor of Technology, Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University; Fellow, National Academy of Inventors

James Conley is clinical professor of technology at Northwestern University. He serves on the faculty of both the Kellogg School of Management and the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University. He is a faculty contributor in the Kellogg Center for Research in Technology & Innovation and serves as a Faculty Fellow at the Segal Design Institute (NU IDEA). Beyond academia, Professor Conley is an inventor, an active advocate of IP education for business and other students and leads seminars globally for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He is a National Academy of Inventors (NAI) fellow. 

 

Professor Conley was appointed a member of the U.S. Department of Commerce Trademark Public Advisory Committee (TPAC) of the Patent and Trademark Office and has been an expert and author for the UN based World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He serves on the board of several companies and the US Intellectual Property Allliance and the Illinois Intellectual Property Alliance. Jaci McDole

Chief Policy Officer and Counsel, Council for Innovation Promotion

Jaci McDole joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Innovation Policy Center (GIPC) as senior director of Copyright and Creativity in April 2023. Her portfolio includes the Create & Connect Campaign, digital intellectual property (IP) theft, copyright and artificial intelligence, and anti-piracy issues.

Before joining GIPC, she worked on IP and innovation policy with the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, the Institute for Intellectual Property Research, and the former Center for the Protection of Intellectual Property at George Mason University.
 

Her previous work includes stints with a small record label and a nonprofit royalty collective. Projects and collaborations include studies of the WHO Essential Medicines List, a report on closing the IP gender gap, updating the Trade Secret Protection Index, and various blogs and articles, including “The IP Educator.”

McDole holds a double B.A. in music business and radio-television with a minor in marketing, an M.S. in education, and a J.D. with a specialization in IP, all from Southern Illinois University.

Jamie Simpson

Chief Policy Officer and Counsel, Council for Innovation Promotion

Jamie Simpson is Chief Policy Officer and Counsel for The Council for Innovation Promotion (C4IP), a bipartisan coalition dedicated to promoting strong and effective intellectual property rights that drive innovation, boost economic competitiveness, and improve lives. Jamie has almost 20 years of experience in policy and a specific focus on IP-related issues. She previously served as Chief Counsel on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, IP, and the Internet; Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee while on detail from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; and Associate Solicitor at the USPTO.

A graduate of Harvard Law School, the London School of Economics and Harvard University, she served as a law clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Phil Hartstein

Managing Director

Phil Hartstein is an executive and investor with more than two decades of experience in the intellectual property industry. Prior to founding Soryn IP Capital, Phil was the President and CEO of Finjan Holdings (formerly NASDAQ: FNJN, now owned by Fortress), where he oversaw the licensing and enforcement of the Company’s pioneering cybersecurity patents, and established a number of IP industry best practices for patent licensing. During his tenure as CEO, Finjan generated more than $300 million in licensing income both through negotiated deals and trial victories.

 

Prior to Finjan, Phil’s career focused on IP investments and monetization, in industries ranging from medical devices to cybersecurity technologies. Phil is active in several industry organizations, and has worked diligently to establish standards for patent licensing through the Licensing Executives Society, where is a founding Board member of the Standards Development Organization. A named inventor and patent holder, Phil has more than two dozen pending and issued patents. Phil is regularly invited to speak on patent and policy related topics, and has been twice recognized as a Top 40 Global IP Dealmaker by IAM Magazine. Phil graduated with a BS in Industrial Technology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

Ruth Vitale

CEO, CreativeFuture; for head of Fine Line Feature and Paramount Classics; producer of "Dirty Dancing”

Ruth is a multi-Oscar-winning Hollywood producer and founder of Paramount Classics and President of Fine Line Features. Ruth's films have won three Oscars and received 16 Academy Award nominations, as well as 18 Golden Globe nominations. As president of production for Vestron Pictures, she broke new ground with the highest-grossing independent film of the time, Dirty Dancing. 

 

In her role as CEO of CreativeFuture, a non-profit, Ruth represents 500 copyright-intensive organizations and 300,000 individuals. She founded and served as Co-President of Paramount Classics from 1998-2005, an autonomous division of Paramount Pictures that specialized in bringing daring, offbeat, and unconventional films to contemporary audiences. Ruth was integral to the startup Daytime, the Hearst/ABC first women’s cable network co-venture that eventually became Lifetime. She is a  member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the Advisory Board of Carnegie Mellon University/Master of Entertainment Industry Management Program, and Special Projects Mentor at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Sara Leikin

Ed.D., Senior Director, International STEAM Partnerships, COSI

Sara Leikin is a leader in science, technology, engineering, art, and math education, who is known for her ability to build and manage global partnerships that bridge cultural divides and promote educational innovation. She directs COSI's national and international partnership strategies, with a focus on intellectual property education, including the Extracurricular Intellectual Property Innovation Center (EiPIC), ensuring that students, especially those furthest from opportunity, gain essential skills in protecting and commercializing their innovations.


Sara has is  an award-winning teacher, school leader, and a director of U.S. Agency for International Development education projects, notably leading hundreds of educators through professional development for the Egypt STEM Schools Project. Sara is particularly passionate about the intersection of formal and informal education systems, advocating for asset-based approaches to make educational services more accessible globally. Sara is also a committed volunteer, supporting invention education and serving as the Education Co-Chair for the 2025 International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Columbus.

Terry Hart

General Counsel of the Association of American Publishers; fmr Counsel for the United States Copyright Office; CIPU Board of Directors

Terry Hart is GC of the Association of American Publishers, a trade association of the American book publishing industry, representing book, journal and education publishers. Terry’s interests include a wide range of copyright topics, including AI and streaming issues. He is a Lecturer at the George Washing University Law School and publishes a well-known blog, Copyhype, devoted to balanced, in-depth analysis of topics and issues concerning copyright law and its role in a digital era.

 

Previously, he was Assistant General Counsel for U.S. Copyright Office, providing legal guidance to the Office’s divisions, promulgating regulations governing the administration of the copyright system, and advising congressional offices. Prior to the Copyright Office, he was Vice President of Legal Policy and Copyright Counsel for the Copyright Alliance, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization representing over two million individual creators and 15,000 organizations across the spectrum of copyright disciplines. He joined the CIPU board of directors in 2023, succeeding Jennifer Pariser, former Associate General Counsel of the Motion Picture Association.

Tiffany Norwood

Serial Entrepreneur; Inventor; Creator; Author; 2022 Cornell University Entrepreneur of the Year; CIPU Board of Directors

At 27 Tiffany Norwood raised over $670 million dollars to fund a startup to build the first global digital radio platform and launch three satellites into space. The capital helped to establish XM Radio. As one the first successful black female tech entrepreneur, Tiffany's career has spanned 52 countries, 30+ years and seven startups. Tiffany established her first start-up as a teenager and had been granted a patent by the age of 23. Her ventures have ranged from the first one-strap backpack to the automation technology behind self-install kits for broadband internet, and a virtual reality gaming platform. In 2022, she was named Cornell Entrepreneur of the Year.

 

Tiffany has led some of the first digital content licensing deals, including those with Bloomberg News and CNN International. She was also an early collaborator with the Fraunhofer Institute on their MPEG technologies. Tiffany is the Founder and CEO of Tribetan, a company that teaches entrepreneurship and innovation literacy as a life skill and the human science of success. Venues with which she has consulted include the European Parliament, Yale, the USPTO, KMPG and the South African Embassy. Her dream is that the science of turning imagination into reality is as well-known to the core curriculum as reading, writing, and math. Tiffany received an MBA from Harvard and a Bachelor’s in Economics with a concentration in statistics and electrical engineering from Cornell.

Wayne Stacy

Executive Director, Berkeley Center for Law & Technology

Wayne Stacy has been a leading expert on patent law and IP litigation for over two decades. He is Executive Director of the Berkeley Center for Law and Technology, a research center within the Berkeley School of Law focusing on technology and intellectual property. Most recently, Wayne was the Director for the USPTO’s Silicon Valley Office where he was responsible for leading the USPTO’s Silicon Valley Coast office and ensuring that its initiatives were tailored to the region’s unique ecosystem.

 

Prior to his appointment at the USPTO, Wayne spent more than 20 years in several of the world’s top law firms. Most recently, he was a senior partner and Intellectual Property Chair for Baker Botts’ San Francisco office. Prior to that, Wayne was an equity partner in the IP Litigation section of Cooley LLP. In 2024 he served as a Fulbright Specialist in AI and Legal Governance in Kathmandu, Nepal.
